VIM (VOLUNTEERS IN MISSION)
VIM is a United Methodist outreach to those in need, not only in this country but throughout the world. We are teams from churches all over the country, everyday people wishing to serve God in a hurting world by serving others where they live. We volunteer to help those needy that have lost all hope in recovering from disasters; floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, or simply poverty. We build churches, repair homes, care for orphans, and drill wells for clean water to name just a few. Typically those we help are elderly, disabled, single parents or economically disadvantaged. In other words, those who really need a helping hand.
While the physical labor is important, our real mission is in giving comfort and support in meeting the spiritual needs of those we are helping. Our mission is to restore hope.
We work in concert with UMCOR (United Methodist Committee On Relief), the world renowned and respected relief agency. VIM and UMCOR keep at the job until it is finished.
Many of our teams are still going to New Jersey to continue the recovery effort left by hurricane Sandy, more than 5 years ago and with much left to do. There are teams still going to Mississippi and Louisiana in the continuing recovery from Katrina (2005).
Watch this site for future trips and come on along! You do not have to have construction experience! This is learn on the job and have fun being the hands, feet and heart of Christ! There is always something for everyone to do, regardless of age or abilities or your perceived skill level. We'll find something your good at!
